MCPtoAI is a system that securely connects web-based AI with your own computer and the services you use.
You install a small MCPtoAI application on your computer. Then, from anywhere, you can open the MCPtoAI website and interact with AI that can securely work with your computer.
You choose which AI you want to use. You can use cloud providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Grok, Kimi and EVREN, or local models running directly on your computer through tools such as Ollama and LM Studio.
The AI doesn’t just chat with you. With your permission, it can work with files on your computer, open applications, and interact with other services through MCP.
For each capability, you can choose Off / Ask / Allow. Your API keys are not stored on MCPtoAI’s servers; instead, they remain securely stored in your computer’s operating system credential store or Keychain.
Web and Desktop Have Different Roles
The easiest way to understand MCPtoAI is to think of it as two connected parts:
MCPtoAI Web
This is where you interact with AI.
From the web interface, you can select your device, choose an AI model, have conversations, access previous chats, manage your MCP connections, and approve actions when the AI needs permission to do something.
In other words, the web app acts as your control centre.MCPtoAI Desktop
This is the secure bridge installed on your computer.
It installs and manages the Device Agent that runs in the background on Mac or Windows. It securely stores your API keys on your device, manages MCP connections and computer permissions, and carries out authorised actions sent from the web interface.
In other words, the Desktop app is the secure bridge between the web and your computer. What Can You Actually Do With It?
Imagine you have MCPtoAI installed on your Windows PC at home.
While you are away, you open MCPtoAI Web on another computer and ask:
“Show me the largest files in the Downloads folder on my home computer.”
If that action is configured as Ask, MCPtoAI will first ask:
“Do you want to allow this action?”
This is why MCPtoAI is more than just another AI chat website.
Where Does MCP Fit In?
MCP means the system is not limited to your computer.
For example, if you connect the to4.at MCP, you could ask the AI:
“Find me a suitable available domain.”
“Show me the DNS records for my domain.”
As you connect additional MCP servers, the same AI can work with more services and tools.
The Most Important Difference
MCPtoAI connects AI to your computer and your MCP services, while you decide which AI provider to use and what the AI is allowed to do.
You are not locked into OpenAI. You are not locked into Claude either. You can use your own API keys, choose another provider, or even use a model running entirely on your own computer.
And once you start a conversation with one model, you don’t have to stay with that model.
For example, while working on a long software project, your current model might reach its usage limit, the service might temporarily become unavailable, or you may simply want to continue with another model.
With MCPtoAI, you can switch to a different model while keeping the same conversation and working context, and continue from where you left off.
This can be especially useful for developers and people who use AI heavily. You could analyse code with one model, continue developing it with another, switch to a local model when needed, and avoid interrupting your work simply because one provider is unavailable or you have reached a usage limit.
Your Own AI Workspace, Instead of a Single AI
MCPtoAI is not designed to lock you into a particular AI model, provider, or service.
Models change. Usage limits can be reached. New and better models appear. The tools you use may change.
MCPtoAI remains your workspace in the middle of all of them.
Your conversations, your computer, your connected MCP services, and the permissions you have configured can continue working within the same environment. You simply choose the model that suits your needs and continue where you left off.
Instead of creating separate workflows around different AI services, you can build your own AI working environment in one place.
